Academic Services
At the start of the academic year you will receive volumes of printed leaflets informing you of social events, health matters, accommodation, academic requirements, academic support and other information. For some students it can become a little overwhelming to receive so much information in a short space of time and as a result many of these leaflets will either be set aside or dumped, never to be read. I would like to encourage you to take note of Study Coach’s promotional leaflets on how to find academic help when writing essays. Study Coach’s library of concepts are designed to improve understanding of theories and help you to be more discursive and less descriptive.
ESSAY WRITING HELP
Most Universities will provide a hub to help guide you with writing assignments, but with so many students to support, quite often students are unable to access the help they so badly need. Here at Study Coach, we find that it is in the area of understanding key academic concepts where many students require help. Should students fail to understand a concept that is key to the essay, then it follows that students will have difficulties raising academic arguments. The student’s completed essay is therefore likely to be very descriptive, lack depth, weak on critical analysis and fail the assessment criteria. Understanding concepts that are relevant to the essay criteria is therefore fundamental. For example, if you were asked to write an essay on long term conditions and holistic care, you will certainly need to understand the concept of holistic nursing.
HOLISTIC NURSING
With the rise in the number of people in the country suffering from long term conditions such as dementia and stroke, holistic nursing has become of great importance. In structuring an essay on holistic nursing, students therefore need to raise arguments on healing the whole person, ensuring that links between the mind, body, spirit, emotion and environment are throughly expressed. A brief mention of holistic nursing will be insufficient, if you are to achieve an excellent grade. The key concept should be discussed in details, understanding should be made clear, a critical assessment of the concept should be offered to demonstrate depth of understanding. It is only through having an in-depth understanding of the concept that a student will be able to achieve high marks.
STUDY COACH’S CONCEPTUAL RESOURCES
Study Coach is aware that for many students, particularly non-traditional learners, making the leap from college to higher education can be very challenging. The situation can become critical if there is a lack of academic support. Study Coach’s learning resources are therefore designed to simplify key concepts. Each concept is crafted to entertain and educate learners, enabling learners to develop a deeper understanding of the theoretical idea; enabling learners to critique the idea, raise questions, and apply the idea to practice. Each concept is presented using a number of examples, to aid learning and understanding. Concepts are presented as pdf documents for download. Students should not copy and paste the document into their assignment, the documents are for reading and extending understanding. The Study Coach examples will help to generate ideas and help learners to raise discursive essay content. Having a good understanding of relevant concepts will help to reduce descriptive writing and improve discursive content. This will in turn raise marks and lead to overall academic success.
DOWNLOAD ARTICLES
Students will find the concepts under the heading of Articles on Study Coach’s website. In due course Study Coach will have a library of concepts for learners to choose from. Concepts such as: person-centred, reflective practice, self-actualisation, literature review, evidence based practice, health inequalities, Gibbs reflective, sick hypothesis, stress, leadership styles and other concepts will be made available. The added bonus is that the concepts are cheap – only £10.
