Entrepreneur Career finding a Niche
Careers Advice:
Hello, my name is Morel Benard and I’m here at Study Coach UK. I hope you’re doing well. Have you ever thought about a career as an Entrepreneur? If you are employed and have a side hustle then you’re on the first rung to becoming an entrepreneur and given that there is no longer the concept of a job for life, it is a good idea to have a side hustle. I must say that I love saying the word ‘entrepreneur’ (very French, it rolls off the tongue).
Spoken Word:
I recently attended a workshop and met numbers of people who expressed a desire to become entrepreneurs, but they were getting quite frustrated because they couldn’t decide on a niche for their business; in other words they couldn’t decide what type of business to run. Now, I don’t know much about business, I’m an educator, ex-actor, a motivator, storyteller, spoken word artist and a WoW (Wise old Woman) but I feel that I have something to offer on how people can find a niche. Let me tell you about one budding but frustrated entrepreneur whom I met at the workshop.
Cindy Lou:
I have decided to call my lady Cindy Lou, since I don’t want to be sued. Cindy Lou is a beauty with a booty, she went to finishing school, she knows all about cocktail parties, pearls and diamonds, fine dining and she wants to be an entrepreneur. Hooray for Cindy Lou, you have to give the girl her dues.
If you can imagine that at this workshop each person is given an opportunity to introduce themselves, when it’s Cindy Lou’s turn she stood and said:
Before starting this journey I had very little clue about what I needed to do and I’m still searching for answers, hence this pitch to you. I know I want to be an entrepreneur, though it wasn’t a career choice when I were at school. So far I have spent time in the library collecting data on business models, and talking to friends about all sorts of business tools. Unfortunately, unbeknown to me my friends didn’t have a clue.
Millionaire and Niche:
I need to find my niche and I need to find it pretty soon, so I can think about funding, projections and marketing my products or services and decide on strategies to use. You see I have an aversion to 9 – 5, don’t get me wrong I’m hardworking, and can take instructions but I’m creative and need more than just a job, I need a new way of life. An Entrepreneur, being mine own boss is what I need to do, but it’s proving difficult and I want to be a millionaire before I’m thirty-two.
Funnels and DM’s
Yes, I have attended coffee mornings, workshops and webinars too, sat through seminars listening to people who clearly couldn’t advice me what to do. Yes, they told me to make a plan, to state my purpose, vision, mission and principles too. They talked about ‘funnels’ and introduced me to some acronyms but I still can’t identify my niche of what business to do.
I’ve been on social media and follow gurus, I’ve used DM’s to connect with influencers and a billionaire or two. I love the lifestyle of jets, sea and sand, but when they ask about my target audience I have to tell them that I’m still undecided about what niche to do. My DM simply says: ‘I’m Cindy Lou, I need a mentor to help me discover a niche or two. I have beauty and brains but don’t like the rat race so an Entrepreneur is what I have decided to do.
I know that an entrepreneur’s life would be right for me, I like taking risks, love challenges and I’m committed to working hard to realise my dreams. I’m open to the possibilities of how a business could grow and I have read about the process of designing, launching and running a start-up and I’m good to go. The only thing I need to know is what niche am I suited to because I really don’t know.

Dear Cindy Lou,
You have a lot going for you. I note that you have been to finishing school, you have knowledge about etiquette, cocktail parties, pearls and diamonds, fine dining, social media. Simply write down all your interests, skills and knowledge and you will find a niche pretty soon.
