Private Tutor Online for Adult Learners – Study Coach
To all College and University students, very well done for making it through the first semester, I’m sure that you’re all looking forward to 2019. For those of you starting a nursing course in February/March, then I would like to introduce you to Study Coach, a Private Tutor Online service, catering to the needs of adult learners, studying at University or College. Please note that as stated you will be forwarding your assignments to Study Coach, therefore please note that this is NOT an Essay Writing Service; you will need to draft your essay/report/dissertation (tough love).
ARTICLES for DOWNLOAD
If you read the previous Private Tutor blog that I published at the start of the year, you will note that I have not yet made any reference to conducting face-to-face tutoring. The reason for this is that the majority of students have elected to use the Online service as opposed to visiting me in Bedfordshire for face-to-face discussions, therefore I have taken the decision to focus on providing the Online service. However, in order to give further support to students, I have recently introduced a service providing pdf Articles for Download. The Study Coach Articles are designed to support students with writing assignments, each Article focus on a specific topic and is supported with relevant theoretical evidence and references are applied. Depending on the topic for discussion, the Article will include a case study, presents ideas to help students raise discursive skills and apply theoretical concepts to practice settings to further help students to widen their knowledge of the specific subject and write their essay, report or research project. Each Article for College/University students is 1,300 words, there are other Articles available for non-students. Each Article will present an excerpt for students to read before deciding whether or not they wish to Download the pdf. For example the Article on Learning Disability Nurse provides knowledge of the nurses’ role and responsibilities, and highlights the fact that the general public, communities and many newcomers to nursing have very little idea about the specialist role of the Learning Disability Nurse. The impact on the lives of patients and out-patients with learning disability; challenges for the nurse and working in a multi-disciplinary team are considered in the Article. I suggest that you take a look at the Articles page, so that you are aware of what is available (the first batch of Articles are for nursing students) new Articles on a range of academic subjects will be added on an ongoing basis.
Study Coach therefore offers a combined Private Tutor Service Online and Articles service for mature learners who need a caring Tutor. The beauty of being online is that wherever students are in the world they can access the service by submitting draft assignments and they can Download Articles whenever it is convenient for them (day or night).
UNIVERSITY SUPPORT
In the earlier blog, I gave you the rationale why Study Coach is in existence, and I feel that it is important to repeat some aspects of the message. Your University or College will assign you to a Personal Tutor (Lecturer) to support you with your academic and pastoral concerns, but the problem is that lecturers have their own heavy workload and are hard pressed to find time to act as personal tutors. You will be told ‘Don’t be afraid to ask for Help’ ’It’s what we’re here for’. The sentiment is great, but unfortunately the reality is very different. The reality is that with so many tutees, your tutor might not have sufficient time for you. Some lecturers may also start to question your suitability and competence to undertake your chosen course of study.
We are experienced in working with mature students who are non-traditional learners, and we appreciate that many adult learners have been outside of education for a number of years and have now taken the decision to re-educate self in order to find employment.
For many adult learners’ English is not their mother tongue, and this can pose further difficulties for students in understanding new theoretical concepts and drafting assignments. Adult learners may also need a confidence boost, particularly when faced with structuring and delivering presentations. Standing in front of your classmates and tutor to deliver a presentation can be very stressful, public speaking skills are learnt, and we are here to support you.
