UK Universities strike action and Students Education
It is reported that due to strike actions, UK university students are likely to experience disruption to their education. Study Coach online service is here to support students with their academic work, we know that research projects and dissertation can be challenging for students, we specialise in supporting students with research methodology.
The Pandemic and Education
The pandemic has created learning issues for students at school, college and university, strike action could therefore bring further disruptions to students education. At some universities students have missed months of in-person teaching and this has impacted negatively on students achievement. Media reports states that disruptions due to the pandemic have led to students being unable to have access to the use of facilities such as libraries because of the closure of campuses during periods of lockdown.
Student Support for Teaching Staff
The reason behind the strike is said to be in part due to the management and financing of the University Superannuation Scheme (USS) which provides pensions to the UK’s older universities as well as research institutes. Low pay and issues such as insecure fixed-term contracts for teaching staff have contributed to the dispute and call for strikes. According to reports and the National Union of Students, there is support for the strike amongst students, with over 70% of students in support of the strike. There is an allegation that senior university managers have been attempting to persuade staff from taking steps to protect retirement funds. Study Coach is in support of both students and staff; some students of today, will be the staff of tomorrow. We do however hope that disruptions caused by strikes will not greatly impact on teaching and learning. Students in need of support to further understand theoretical ideas, research concepts are welcome to seek help from Study Coach. As previously stated Study Coach is well experienced teaching research methodology; Study Coach supports Nursing, Social Work, Social Care, Education, Criminology and other social science academic subjects.
Education Service
Study Coach educational services provides guidance to students on how to interpret assignment criteria; how to do research; how to raise essay and dissertation grades and grow in confidence. The essay and dissertation service provide students with detailed feedback in regard to evidence based practice, critical analysis, methodology, ethics, theoretical understanding and related assignment requirements.
Help with Essay Writing/Dissertation Writing
Students, please note that Study Coach is not an essay mill, we provide feedback on your draft essay, we guide you to improve assignments, we act as personal online tutors. Please refrain from asking if you can purchase an essay/dissertation and submit to your University as your own work – this is unethical. We need you to understand what you have written, we need you to possess the knowledge required for your practice, your understanding of research evidence when applied in practice can save lives if you are training to become a nurse. Knowledge acquired via a degree can make a difference between success in business or failure in business, hence we need to engage and be committed to learning.
Dissertation
Nurses in training will need to successfully complete essays, presentations, literature reviews, physical assessments and a dissertation in order to become a qualified nurse. The Dissertation is a major piece of work and many students are likely to find the assignment challenging. The idea of doing research, whether it is a literature review (critiquing secondary sources) or carrying out a primary research can create stress for students. What is research, the usefulness of research and what is evidence based practice (EBP) are concepts that nursing students will need to understand? Placement is an important part of the nursing degree and this will entail students carrying out physical assessments; placements can be stressful, Study Coach online service provides pastoral support.
Nursing Students and Research
Research will need to be verifiable, it should be rigorous and findings should be generalisable. The findings of a scientific research carried out on one group of patients in Birmingham suffering with diabetes, should therefore be applicable to a similar group of patients other than the patients in the original study – hence generalisable.
Academic research should be empirically verifiable, so that other researchers can repeat the study. The research should therefore explain the research process (how it was done) where and when it was done, so we could check that it actually took place and if we repeat the process we should get the same results.
In giving an account of the research process, readers will know how the research was conducted and why the research was conducted in the stated manner.
Nursing students preparing to plan a research proposal or to conduct research, should give consideration to how the planned research will build on the work of others and how the research might generate new ideas for investigation and testing.
Steps to Research
Academic/Scientific research should therefore follow a scientific method:
- Start with an idea or theory
- Devise an investigation to test the theory
- Carry out the investigation
